Scarf Face

This day was an easy day. Running errands, avoiding the gym, you know. The usual. If you have not noticed, I have dreadlocks. Free-form dreadlocks, to be exact, which is such low maintenance relative to even other dreadlock types. Basically, I just have to pull them part every once in a while to keep from developing into one enormous duckbill on my head. But even with the relatively minute amount of work I have to put in to maintaining my do there are many times when I espouse the “less is more” way of thinking and cannot be bothered to even think about what my hair is doing. And when that happens, but I don’t want to look like I fought the bed and the bed won, I throw on a scarf.

Head scarves, especially for those of us who have too much noggin for most chapeaux, are a fabulous accessory. With some very simple folding and tying, one can fashion most any size and shape scarf into beautiful headwear. And they can be found anywhere, from Goodwill to Hermès , and for any price point. Nevermind the color and pattern choices; the options are endless! Not to mention HOW you can wear them. Long hair, short hair, hair up, hair down. Are you picking up what I’m putting down? There is no “wrong” when it comes to this. Worried because you have no idea how to tie a scarf? That’s what YouTube is for!

A professional blogger would have ironed or steamed this before taking its photo. If you happen to meet one, would you send him/her my way?

I am all about this sweater. All about it. I love the wide scoop neck, the way it frames my collar bones and leaves room to display a necklace, when I wear one. I love the lace knit detail which gives texture and depth to an otherwise simple silhouette. And I love the interwoven gold thread that catches the eye with movement, really adding some interest to the classic tan color. It sits very easily on the body and gives nice shape, with its gathered sleeves and waistband. Can’t think of a body type that would not be flattered wearing this.

Once again, I am in my high-waisted skinny jeans. While one pair is in the wash, the other is very likely on my person. Which is why it’s going to take forever to get through all my clothes. Blurgh.

These booties are among my favorite in the my bunch. The olive-green goes with everything and is a nice neutral when you don’t want black or brown. The diagonal positioning of the zippers– (yes, double-sided zippers! Is this as exciting to anyone else? Anyone?) — is such a fun detail.  And talk about comfortable! I wore this nearly to death last year and I plan on continuing to do so until they’re just a sole and one diagonal zipper hanging on for dear life.

For accessories, I kept it pretty simple with a watch and a big chunky bracelet. And as if the fact that it is gold (tone) and shiny weren’t fabulous enough, it had to be made with alternating smooth and grooved textures. And my earrings– aren’t they the sweetest nuggets? Like little gold strobe lights in my ears. Still carrying the same bag. Still whipsering sweet nothings into its hardware.
